Hello all,
We continue to enjoy Port St Joe, especially since our daughter Joy and her dog Marley came last Wed thru Sunday to visit. With her car we had a great time traveling around... to the beaches, Apalachicola and St Georges Island, Cape San Blas, and St Joseph peninsula. We walked, gathered shells, ate seafood, and generally enjoyed ourselves. Great to have her here!
Some of our fellow Loopers are Philippa and John Ashbey and their teens Alice and Lloyd from New Zealand. They began the loop last spring from Ft Myers. Friday night they came over to watch "Miracle on 34th St" with us... another bonus of traveling, to get to know so many different people. Their blog is bowwaves.blogspot.com; check to see some of their adventures.
We splurged and bought ourselves a Christmas present: a 2.5 hp outboard for the dinghy. We ordered it last Wednesday and it arrived on Friday... how's that for service? Yesterday we took a brief 'maiden voyage' and it will do just fine. Less rowing for Jack on those early am and late pm trips to the shore with Dinah... and a bit more freedom for us to explore places that may be too shallow for the Eschaton.
If the weather is right, we'll leave here next Tuesday, headed for Apalachicola, and then Carabelle. We've gotten real comfortable here, but it's time to move on if we're ever going to complete the Loop... (we're only 800 miles in to a 6500 mile trip!!) and we'd surely like to find warmer weather. Like many 1st time Loopers, we're starting to experience some Big Bend anxiety... worries about the crossing, which ever way one plans to do it (straight across or in increments along the coast). But we trust that with appropriate caution and wise decisions, we'll be fine. Many boaters are reminded of the saying that the boat can do more than the boaters imagine. Hope that's true!! We've made contact with some of Nan's family in Ft Myers, so that will be our next real stop.
We send our wishes to all of you for health, happiness, and God's continuing blessings, as we again experience God's coming to earth through the Christmas miracle.
Praying for peace throughout the world,
nan and jack

So glad to hear things are going well! Can't think of a nicer place to hang out than the St. George Island/Appalachicola area. Have a 1/2 dozen Oysters Rockefeller for me at Boss Oyster - so delicious! Have you seen any dolphins? We saw several when we were there in October.
ReplyDeleteWe have had a great week at church. Some nice church member gave $100,000 so our current building note can be wiped out whenever we want! It's a great gift for Fred as it completes a major goal for him. Just three more Sundays with Fred - Jan 3, 7 and 24. :(
We have had a great Christmas Day - Butler's single brother came for breakfast, then we had two single gals from church for a big lunch. After lunch we went to a Buddhist friend's home to meet 14 members of her family and take part of their preparations for a memorial service tomorrow for a brother who died 12/26/08. Caitlin Orman is here now playing games with the kids as we watch the Titans get slaughtered.
Merry Christmas to you both from all of us! We send wishes for warmer weather both here and there and for many good days ahead!
Hugs from all of us,
Martha and Family
